About the Event

Caring for youth with behavioral health challenges can be both deeply meaningful and incredibly demanding. Families often navigate complex needs, limited supports, and the daily stress that can affect family well-being and stability.  This session will explore how behavioral health respite care can help reduce caregiver stress, strengthen families, and support youth. Drawing on findings from the Ohio Children’s Alliance white paper, Best Practices in Community Behavioral Health Respite Care for Children and Families, along with lessons from current respite programs in Ohio, this session will highlight what behavioral health respite is, why it matters, how it differs from child welfare respite, promising program and staffing models (including the role of licensed foster caregivers), and practical recommendations for expanding access to quality behavior health respite services.
